We have arrived, and after what seems like many many days, I have finally started blogging. Australia has been amazing so far, and Sydney is just full of so many adventures. It is amazing that our time in Sydney is almost over, as we are leaving for Hunter Valley early Monday morning. I have experienced so many amazing and interesting things in Sydney so far, such as seeing the Botanical Gardens (thanks Mom and Dad for interesting me in flowers!), the Sydney Opera House (which I didn't know wasn't finished being built till the 70's), Manly Beach (home to cute Little Penguins (plus we swam in the ocean even though it was a bit windy and lots of clouds but still warmer then home!)), and The Rocks, a historic part of town. We have also has a lot of fun learning about the Australian and Sydney culture/life by going to the Sydney Aquarium, no big deal but I saw a platypus, and tonight we went to the first night of the Sydney Festival. It was awesome and I am so jealous that we don't have a festival like this in the states... it needs to happen! As for sustainability, I am happily surprised at the city of Sydney. From some of the places we have been and the great discussions we have had, we have learned more about sustainability in Australia and how we can do more when we are back home.
I am also glad to tell you that we are finally getting used to the bus routes and how to get home (to the Women's college at the University of Sydney) from downtown. Just got to remember George St, the three story Mac store, Alfred St by the Circular Quay, and of course 322 23 26 28! (I cannot even begin to tell you how many times have I have said those numbers!
Tomorrow is our last day in Sydney this week, so we have a free day! Time to explore some things we didn't get to see before, then off to take the ferry to Manly. If we have one day left, might as well try to work on my tan, right?!
One last Australia fact: they shorten every word, or at least a lot. Brekky=breakfast, sunnies=sunglasses, mossies=mosquitoes, nappies=napkins, and so so so much more!
Until next time, goodbye from the land down under.
