Sounds of Sydney

How do you capture a week of glorious Sydney adventures? Well through your senses of course and I chose SOUND!

Flight attendant ding: On our way over to the great down under while pleasantly watching movies on the ever so convenient personal televisions, the plane was interrupted by a flight attendant announcement proceeded by a jolting ding which sent Jimmy's beverage all over his lap. And our adventure begins.

Twitters, hoots, and hollers of the unknown: The calls of the birds, frogs (which I have many times tried to find in the garden bushes) and who knows what else are incredibly tropical sounding. We very well could just be in paradise!!!

Ready, set, cross the street: The noise that alerts you that it is safe to cross the street is a shrill beeping chirp that hope to correctly mimic some day.

A night with the Canadians: Because it is Holiday, the Women's College within University of Sydney is open as a temporary residence to many a vagabond. Our stay here coincided with a group of multiple musically talented artists from Canada touring about Australia. I befriended Neil from the Band Sherman Downey and the Silver Lining and was informed that they would be playing a show nearby. Their touring manager Shelly added the cherry to the top with a free in. At this point our group had been hitting our adventures in Sydney pretty hard so only Preston, Chrissy, Emily and I attended. With great company, good drinks, and incredible music a very good night was had.

Morning with the Canadians: Preston and I rallied on after the show and hung out with many of the band mates. This escapade turned into Preston and I listening to Sherman and Bill jamming on the piano, which eventually was supplemented by the metronome of Preston's snoring. I almost cannot think of anything more lovely.

Stories of the environmentally concerned: At the Manly Environmental Center (not exclusive to the ladies, just located in the town of Manly) a group of wonderful people shared their narratives about how they came to care about issues relating to various environmental issues. They were all very engaging and inspiring and deserve an entire blog post to themselves. I am looking forward to doing some eco-diving with one of the Dave's upon our return to Sydeny!!!

Sydney Opera House: Hearing Beirut tuning up on the main stage!

Waterfall RAWRS: Wrapping up the week with an adventure to the Blue Mountains was a really great way to capture how incredible our natural world is. Part of this spectacular view was a waterfall which happened to be quite refreshing.

Thunder from down under: Having been in Washington for the past few years it has been far too long since I have had a good, solid thunderstorm. It was particularly exciting to hear what sounded like the sky being torn in half. Perhaps standing in the fround courtyard with Emily and Preston was not the smartest of ideas but we sure did have a nice view.

I hope to supplement this entry with pictures sometime.
