Waste consciousness: Imagine a plastic bottle. The potential for pollution is more than just the bottle. There is the bottle, the plastic based label surrounding the bottle, the lid, and the safety seal ring around the top of the bottle. As eco-diver Dave pointed out, sharks (and other animals) don’t have hands making animals victims to litter and ultimately our actions. I have thought about it before, but the ridiculousness of the amount of packaging on so many things was reinforced by Dave’s narrative. Our Western preoccupation with sanitation results in the waste of so much plastic. Does our flat of apples really need to be individually wrapped? Come on! Whether it is using my reusable mug, water bottle or grocery bag, and/or choosing a product considering the amount of packaging involved, I plan to continue making a conscious effort to reduce the amount of unnecessary waste I contribute into the system with my purchases.
Overall, everyone at the MEC was fantastic and I think really harped on the power of education and perception.
Forecast: EVERY DAY IS A GREAT DAY!!!! Your little bit counts!
