The Great Barrier Reef was an amazing site!!! One of the
seven natural wonders of the world and it makes me happy I got to see it in my
life. There were so many different corals that were colorful. My favorite was
the blue coral we saw. Janet and I stuck together to make sure we were okay. We
were sad to not find a sting ray, shark, or turtle L. But I thought it was pretty cool because a
thought went through my head saying, “There are no sea stars out here!” Well I
saw one, royal blue and it was so cool. Even though I saw a bunch of parrot
fish that were cute the sea star was beautiful. The parrot fish was cute
because these smaller fish would follow him around eat stuff off his sides and
if he wasn’t busy eating, then he would just sit there in the water with this
look of total pleasure like getting a back rub. It was really cute.
Afterwards we got a lecture by a marine biologist who gave
us a story of telling us the changes their company has made to better protect
the reef. But at the same time conditions are worsening. She didn’t have all
the facts of like acidity levels, but the severe cyclone storm they had
recently tore up a lot of the coral. Higher probability of severe storms is
more frequent because of climate change, which is one problem effecting the
reef. Interestingly, the reef was moved a few feet in some areas because it
would have better growth in this new area. It makes me sad to think that people
have to move the reef to try and make it more viable instead of keeping it
where it has always been for centuries.
