I saw a Platypus in the wild today! I think I may just end there…But I won’t. While tromping through the high grass and sitting on a log, I could not help but start thinking about what was around me. I was standing on a snake hole, for safety and also for the limited footing. I started to think about the cyclical relationship with have with the earth and nature. The Sun rises so we can see throughout the day, while the Moon faintly lights our darkness guiding us at night. The “creepy” snakes (which are mostly all poisonous here) go into their boroughs at night, which is great for us since we would have a greater likelihood of stepping on them. In one of our readings, The earth…., stated that we urinate, not because it is the easiest or most efficient way of eliminating our nitrogen waste, but due to the greater symbiosis with the earth. The trees need our nitrogen and we need the oxygen they supply through the processing of carbon dioxide that we expel. After a quick but intensive botany class provided by Max, I now have an understanding of the native plants. Australia is a forest environment while the United States has both forest and grass land areas such as the plains versus the redwoods. I can't wait to learn more about how to better work with the natural resources we are currently using.
